Commentary commentary

When it comes to things I like, I am a total geek. Which is to say, I enjoy listening to the commentaries on any dvds I buy. Today I listened to the commentary on Wild at Heart, the sixth episode of the fourth season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The commentary had show creator Joss Whedon, writer Marti Noxon, and actor Seth Green talking about the episode and anything else that came to mind. It was frickin' hilarious. And the main reason it was so good, aside from the fact that all three are funny and interesting people, is the way the three of them played off of each other. Too many commentaries involve a single person sitting in a studio talking to themselves. Commentaries are always more interesting when there's a group of people together, and I especially like it when there's a mix of different professionals (e.g., writers with actors with directors...). I hope these kinds of commentaries become more common.

Off the top of my head, some dvd commentaries I've enjoyed:
Fellowship of the Ring
Austin Powers
Any Kevin Smith commentary
Any Joss Whedon commentary
